Can I lose my virginity from oral sex?

I promised myself that I would remain a virgin until I feel ready to have sex. Recently, a guy I have been seeing went down on me. I am still a virgin if I had oral sex?

In a traditional sense, a virgin is a person who has not had penetrative sex. The penetrative sex can be either vaginal or anal. In case you are wondering, inserting ‘just the tip’ also counts here.

While we say that virginity means you’ve never had oral or anal sex, there are many different definitions of sex. This means that defining virginity is also not as straightforward. For some people, oral sex can mean that they have broken their virginity. This means that, to this group, engaging in any sexual act means that they have broken their virginity. For others, having anal sex and refraining from having vaginal sex means that they are still virgins.

My point is that how you define virginity is really a personal choice and decision. It is important to note that virginity applies to all genders, not just women.

Yet, if we are to use the traditional definition that one only loses virginity through penetrative sex, oral sex will not break your virginity. Some people actually see oral sex as a way to preserve their virginity.

But you can get orgasms, right?

Yes. It is quite possible to get orgasms from oral sex especially if the clitoris and penis are stimulated, this is possible even if you are a virgin.

Remember: While oral sex neither takes away your virginity nor gets you pregnant, you can catch STIs. The main ones that it can pass on are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes. It is, therefore, important to use flavored condoms on men or dental dam for women.
